Dog Hiking Gear

June 20, 2016

There’s a pretty good chance you have seen fellow campers enjoying the outdoors with their four-legged friends and we would wager that many of you who are reading this blog are dog owning travelers yourselves. Dogs are incredible companions and at our various Highway West Vacations destinations, we see new furry friends arrive daily. Many of our guests with pets inquire about nearby hiking trails, so we thought it would be a great idea to find out more about gear that will help make your hike more comfortable for both you and your dog!

Food and water are essential for longer treks and one item you may want to look into grabbing is a Collaps A Bowl. It collapses down to about an inch thick so it is easy to travel with and when fully expanded can hold up to 24 ounces of water. The Kibble Carrier is a great companion piece as it allows you to easily travel and keep food fresh as you camp and hike. The opening along the bottom fits perfectly with the Collaps A Bowl which allows for easy feeding capabilities along the road or trail.

Food, check! Water, check! Now that we have the basics covered, let’s move on to the more specialized gear for dogs on the trail. If you plan on working your way through or around a river or lake, the Surf N Turf Dog Life Jacket is a great choice for helping your dog navigate through the water. You can also remove the floatation layer and use it as a dog raincoat!

If you enjoy the comfort of having your dog visible at all times during your nature walks, the Reflect and Protect Active Dog Vest will allow you to keep a constant eye on things. The orange reflective material and button activated LED light will provide visibility of up to 1,000 feet.
